Zara Hartshorn from Rotherham, England is sixteen, but she is often mistaken for a much older woman. She has a rare genetic condition that has left her skin loose and wrinkly, making her look old. Zara inherited the condition from her mum Tracey, who at 43 already looks like a pensioner. In I’m A Teenage Grandmother, Tracey, Zara and her 17 year-old sister Chloe, who does not have the condition, all travel to Texas - Zara for cosmetic surgery advice from Dr Robert Ersek in Austin, and Tracey to get a diagnosis from Dr Abu Garg at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas . We follow Zara and her family through this difficult journey, and discover her goals to fulfill larger dreams despite everything.
