Optoma GT1080 DLP Projector Repair for Intermittent Lamp

This Optoma GT1080 was sent in after a new lamp was unable to solve the issue. The projector would sometimes light the lamp and other times(more often) would not. After verifying the color wheel, resoldering the ballast control connector and making sure the Mosfets were OK, I measured voltages and noticed the 380 was only showing 320-330v. Then the 150V would drop to 120 or so when the ballast would try and fire.

I used my thermal camera to investigate components that might be passing more current than they should and I noticed the output choke/inductor for the ballast was running hot. Upon closer physical inspection the "glue" I thought I saw was actually melted plastic. The coils had flashed over to itself either due to manufacturer defects or the specs of the part are very close to the edge. Either way a new power supply board was used to eliminate any other defects on that board and that returned reliable function.

The module(as of this video) was $98 shipped(with shipping) from TimeProjector. Gydz@timeprojectorlamp.com is the contact info for parts. Be sure to include a picture of your part that you need.

This also applies to the HD26, GT1080 Darbee, HD141 and a pile of others. Click on the lamp link below and then scroll down to "this lamp can also be used with" to see the myriad of models this repair may apply to.
