Bleaching of Teeth/ Teeth Whitening: Process and Precautions
Over the years the concept of a “perfect smile” has gained more and more importance, with many people desiring straight and light-colored teeth. Tooth whitening has become a veritable means to achieve that exquisite smile. The outcome of bleaching procedures is also very dependent on the nature of the discolorations. Dental bleaches bring about an alteration of light-absorbing or light reflecting properties of stains resulting in apparent whitening of teeth. Commonly used agents are hydrogen peroxide (power bleach), carbamide peroxide (at home bleach) and sodium perborate (walking bleach). Yet bleaching is not meant for everyone and certain precautions and contraindications should be bore in mind prior to opting for the process.
