ML-Based Industrial Fruit Sorting System | Industry 4.0+ Hackathon | ABQ Sovereign Cloud Launch

Presentation by Joseph Walusimbi, team leader -Team SunTech, presenting the ML-Based Industrial Fruit Sorting System, presented during the Industry 4.0+ Hackathon at the ABQ Cloud Launch Day on 26th February 2026.

Out of over 400 teams that applied nationwide, only 15 qualified to compete, and 4 teams were recognized as winners. Team SunTech was honored among the winners.

The event marked the launch of Uganda’s first Sovereign Cloud, held at the EDIC Deep Tech Centre of Excellence, with key stakeholders in attendance, including government leaders and private sector partners.

About the Project

Our ML-Based Industrial Fruit Sorting System uses deep learning and computer vision to automatically classify fruit as healthy or damaged in real time.

The system is designed to:

Improve quality consistency in agro-processing

Reduce post-harvest losses

Enable data-driven industrial automation

Support value addition within Uganda’s agricultural sector
