Review: Sparkel Beverage Carbonator (with no CO2 canister)

DISCLAIMER 3/10/21: The Sparkel folks have reached out and warned against DIY carbonation using the Sparkel device citing potential safety and longevity issues. If it wasn't obvious from the context of the video DIY carbonation is done at your own risk and, obviously, is strongly discouraged by Sparkel.

The Sparkel Drink System does what a normal drink carbonator (like a SodaStream) only it doesn't require the cumbersome compressed CO2 canisters and with no restriction on what liquids you can carbonate. Instead it uses *science* to produce carbon dioxide from common chemicals to create a similarly fizzy drink. There are some drawbacks to the approach and whether the benefits out weight the drawbacks is a decision you'll have to make for yourself.

Remember, if you go the bulk chemical route, it's 2 tablespoons of Citric Acid and just a little less, 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 tablespoons of Baking Soda for each Sparkel cycle.
