Akihabara Station is a station of East Japan Railway Company (JR East), Tokyo Subway (Tokyo Metro), and Metropolitan Intercity Railway in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.

JR East --The average daily number of passengers in 2019 is 248,033.
It is the 9th largest station after Omiya station.
Before 2004, the number of passengers was around 140,000, but with the opening of the Tsukuba Express and the development on the east side of the station, the number of passengers increased sharply, and in 2006 it exceeded 200,000.
It should be taken into consideration that the transfer of the own line is not measured, but it is more than Ueno station, which is the terminal station next to two stations.

Tokyo Metro --The average daily number of passengers getting on and off in 2019 is 124,428.
Among all 130 stations of the company, it is the 26th place after Yotsuya station. The past 10 years have been generally flat.

Metropolitan Intercity Railway-The average daily number of passengers in 2019 is 68,955.
No. 1 at the company's station.
Although there is a tendency for decentralized terminals inside Tokyo, it is more than tripled from Shin-Okachimachi Station and about 20,000 people from Kitasenju Station, and has maintained its position as a terminal station both in name and reality since its opening. ..

The origin of the name of Akihabara is the shrine that people originally called Akibasha (Akihasha) in this area, and the etymology is "Akihabara no Harappa".
The company has been relocated to 3-10-7 Matsugaya, Taito-ku with the opening of the station in 1890 (Meiji 23).
At this edge, a portable shrine patrolls the station premises at the Kanda Myojin Festival on the west side of the station. In addition, Akihasha is enshrined in this station, and this festival is to be held by the JR stationmaster.

In ancient times, it was called "Akihabara" or "Akihabara". On the other hand, the name of the station was changed from "Akihabara" to "Akihabara" in 1907 (Meiji 44).

The town name Akihabara, Taito-ku, actually exists on the north side of the station (near the middle of the main station and Okachimachi station), but the origin is the same.

東京メトロ - 2019年度の1日平均乗降人員は124,428人である。
同社の全130駅の中では四ツ谷駅に次ぐ第26位。ここ10年は概ね横ばい傾向である。

首都圏新都市鉄道 - 2019年度の1日平均乗車人員は68,955人である。
同社の駅では第1位。
東京都内側では分散型ターミナルの傾向がみられるものの新御徒町駅とは3倍以上、北千住駅とは約2万人の開きがあり、開業以来名実ともにターミナル駅の地位を保ち続けている。

秋葉原の名の由来は、元々この地にあって人々が秋葉社（あきばしゃ、あきはしゃ）と呼んだ神社であり、「秋葉社の原っぱ」が語源である。
なお、同社は1890年（明治23年）の駅開設に伴い台東区松が谷三丁目10番7号移転されている。
この縁で、駅の西側にある神田明神のお祭りでは駅構内に神輿が巡幸する。また、秋葉社が当駅内に分祀されており、こちらの祭事はJRの駅長が行うことになっている。

古くは「秋葉の原（あきばのはら）」「秋葉っ原（あきばっぱら）」と呼ばれていた。一方、駅の呼称としては、1907年（明治44年）に「あきははら」(Akihahara)から「あきはばら」(Akihabara)へと変更された。

台東区秋葉原という町名が駅北側（本駅と御徒町駅の中間付近）に実在するが、由来は同じである。
