Why energy drinks can be deadly and health officials don’t tell you - Enquête
Caffeinated energy drinks can sometimes kill, but that's not something the Canadian government tells you. Many people have suffered various health problems, sometimes serious, after consuming these drinks containing stimulants. Symptoms include heart palpitations, convulsions and even respiratory distress. But Enquête’s investigation has discovered that following a regulatory change in 2013, Health Canada is no longer releasing this information. The responsibility for reporting adverse effects has been turned over to the industry itself, which often prefers omerta to transparency. In Canada, Red Bull, Monster and Rockstar all lobby hard to ensure that health problems associated with their products are not made public.
