In 2017, astronomers discovered something that broke their understanding of planets.

A planet they couldn't explain.

It had the density of cotton candy.

Not metaphorically. Literally the same density as the fluffy sugar you eat at a carnival.

It's called WASP-193b.

It's 1.5 times bigger than Jupiter. Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system.

But it weighs almost nothing for its size.

If you could drop it in water… it would float.

A planet. Floating in water.

Scientists have a catalogue of thousands of discovered planets. They've seen rocky ones. Gas ones. Ice ones.

Nothing like this existed in any model.

The leading theory is that it's mostly hydrogen and helium. Puffed up somehow into an enormous, ultra-light sphere.

But that theory doesn't fully explain it either.

Because planets this large shouldn't be this light. The math doesn't work.

And that's what's keeping astronomers up at night.

A planet that shouldn't exist… sitting there in space. Completely unbothered.

Made of essentially nothing.

Science discovered it. Science just can't explain it yet.
