For all the preterm babies we adjust their age from the chronological age to corrected age. Till 40 weeks of gestation we adjust them as corrected gestation age and after that we adjust it as a corrected age. All the preterm babies are followed for their development and their growth with the corrected gestational age or corrective age. Suppose if the baby is born at 28 weeks of gestation we will be adding the further postnatal life days to the 28 weeks of gestation till 40 weeks of gestation. For example if the baby is 3 months old we add 12 weeks to the 28 weeks of gestation and call them as a 40 weeks baby. For example if the baby is 6 months old then we add 6 months, that means 24 weeks to the 28 weeks of gestation and we consider the baby as a 3 months corrected age. A baby who is born at 28 weeks of gestation and completed 6 months age will be assessed as a 3 months old baby with their corrected age. Their development and growth will be only assessed based on their corrected age. So the babies who are born preterm can have slightly less growth compared to the mature babies and usually they catch up their growth by 2 years of age.
