CHICAGO PIZZA PUFF COPYCAT |Tamar's Kitchen
Hello my beautiful people! I missed home, and needed my fix of a pizza puff so I decided to make it myself. There are literally no videos or anything on how to make a Chicago pizza puff, but after a lot of research I think I cracked the code lol. Make sure you guys try this out!
Ingredients (Approximate):
Filling:
Half of a yellow onion
Half of a yellow pepper
1LB of ground turkey
1 Can of tomato sauce
1/4 of a can of tomato paste
Seasonings: equal parts of red pepper flakes, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, and italian seasoning. then a little less of black pepper and garlic salt.
sprinkle of sugar (to cut acidity)
fresh mozzarella cut into cubes
Flour Tortillas(or just use regular burrito shells from the store)
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
⅓ vegetable oil or butter
1 cup warm water
The mishap I had was not adding enough water so I had to keep adding a little to get to the consistency I needed. how much water actually depends on your geographic location so it varies. so start off with a cup and if its not coming together to form a sticky dough then add 1/4 of a cup at a time. From there you want to put it onto a floured surface and knead it until it becomes smooth and set it aside to rest for atleast 15 minutes. Then portion it out into 6 oz balls. Roll to atleast 12 inches in diameter, and as thin as you can get it without breaking.
