The Best Falconry Meeting in the Heart of Europe –Opočno 2017

Falconry is a venerable art that has been added to UNESCO’s List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Every year, falconers from many countries meet in the center of Europe. This year, the gathering was enriched not only by hunting but also by a cultural program, church masses, a concert of trumpeteers and people in traditional costumes. Namely, we were celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Founding of the Falconers’ Club. This meeting took place in the town of Opočno.

This year, the meeting at Opočno was the largest ever. 142 hunters and their birds of prey participated. In addition to Czechs, falconers came from Austria, Belgium, Britain,Croatia, France, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Ireland, Poland and Slovakia. Even falconers from as far away as the USA and Mexico came to the event.
