How To Put PTFE Tape On
There are 2 main things you need to learn before wrapping PTFE tape on threads to prevent leaks. 1) How many wraps 2) correct direction of the wrap. Watch this 58 seconds video to learn both.
In this example, I'm applying the PTFE tape on a radiator valve. The main trick is that the direction where the PTFE tape ends should be in the same direction where the nut closes. When starting wrapping the tape, it's in the opposite direction and once you've finished wrapping the tape, the end of the tape is important to be in the same direction as when turning the nut to close the nut. I know it sounds confusing, so watch this video carefully to learn how it works in detail.
IMPORTANT - rotation direction (clockwise or anticlockwise) is "always" related to the direction you're looking from!
This arrow indicates the direction where you should use to determine whether rotation is clockwise or anticlockwise. In this example, from this view direction, the rotation is in the clockwise direction.
Wrap the PTFE tape for around 3 times. For thinner tapes, you may need to wrap 4 to 5 times.
The end of the PTFE tape should be in the anticlockwise direction. It's the same direction were you close the radiator valve's nut.
It is also recommended to add PTFE tape on the olive, specially if you find leaks from the bottom of the radiator valve's nut that's connected to the pipe.
