How to configure the MTU on a BDCOM GPON OLT and a connected SFU-type ONU using CLI

Welcome to this BDCOM GPON configuration tutorial!

In this video, we walk you through the process of configuring the Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) on a BDCOM GPON OLT and a connected SFU-type ONU using the Command Line Interface (CLI).

📌 What You’ll Learn:
✔️ How to set MTU on the OLT using system mtu
✔️ How to configure the ONU profile with the correct MTU using gpon profile commands
✔️ How to assign the MTU profile to the ONU LLID interface
✔️ Verifying and saving your configuration

📌 Important Notes:

When increasing the MTU size within a network, it is essential to configure the same higher MTU value on both the server and all end devices to ensure proper data transmission.

The configuration process for an HGU-type ONU differs from that of an SFU-type ONU.

📌 MTU Limits:

OLT Maximum MTU: 9212 bytes

ONU Maximum MTU: 1996 bytes

This tutorial is ideal for network engineers, ISP technicians, and anyone working with fiber networks and GPON systems.

🔧 Commands Used:

Switch enable
Switch#config
Switch config#system mtu 9212
Switch config#gpon profile onu-uni mtu1996
Switch-gpon-profile#gpon-profile max-frame-size 1996
Switch-gpon-profile#exit
Switch config#interface gpon0/1:1
Switch config gpon0/1:1#gpon onu uni 1 uni-profile mtu1996
Switch config gpon0/1:1#exit
Switch config#show system mtu
Switch config#write all
