This is the incredible true story of Wilhelm Kranz, a heating and ventilation engineer who found himself facing a crisis no military commander had recognized. While Nazi officials focused on military defense, Kranz noticed that Berlin's overcrowded air raid shelters were suffering from catastrophic oxygen depletion. Thousands of civilians were crammed into underground bunkers designed for far fewer people, creating life-threatening conditions during every bombing raid.

Using his knowledge of airflow, ventilation systems, and engineering principles, Kranz began investigating Berlin's vast shelter network. What he discovered would lead him to take extraordinary risks during the final months of World War II.

Part 1 follows the dramatic beginning of Kranz's mission as he secretly studies the ventilation systems inside Berlin's largest bunkers, including the massive Zoo Bunker. Working during air raids and under the constant threat of punishment, he uncovers critical flaws that official authorities refuse to acknowledge.

As the city moves closer to its final siege, Kranz faces a difficult choice: obey regulations and watch conditions worsen, or take action without permission to save lives.
