Grieving Jos mother tells slain son to avenge death

A wave of grief has swept across Jos after a viral video showed a devastated mother speaking to her son, killed in the recent Palm Sunday attack.

Mrs Favour Ayuba, whose son Promise was among those shot dead by suspected terrorists in Angwan Rukuba, broke down as she addressed his lifeless body. Witnesses say the attack claimed at least 24 lives and left many others injured.

In the emotional clip, the grieving mother revealed she had not eaten since the day of the attack. Holding back tears, she placed a cutlass inside her son’s coffin and asked him to “avenge” his death.

“If you want me to forget, baby, avenge your death,” she said in Hausa, recalling how she carried and raised him. She also referenced the biblical figure Gideon, expressing hope that her son would “fight and return victorious”.

The tragic moment has sparked strong reactions online, with many Nigerians mourning the victims and calling for urgent action to end the cycle of violence in Plateau State.
