This groundbreaking invention consisted of four steel pins driven through bone fragments on either side of a fracture, connected by adjustable clamps that maintained proper alignment during healing. Though largely forgotten after Parkhill's premature death in 1902, his pioneering work was rediscovered during World War I when battlefield injuries demanded more effective treatments.
