Nika Neelova | Saatchi Gallery Russian Show
Sculptor, Nika Neelova, is a recent graduate from the Slade School of Art whose work will be on show at The Saatchi Gallery's upcoming exhibition. 'Gaiety is The Most Outstanding Feature of the Soviet Union', focuses on contemporary Russian art. After winning the 2010 New Sensations Prize, Neelova's work 'Principles Of Surrender', was bought into Charles Saatchi's permanent collection. She concentrates on the properties of materials, subverting objects by separating them from their purpose. London has played a major part in her new work, with The Whitechapel Bell Foundry in East London, who crafted the bell in iconic Big Ben, particularly inspiring her. She investigates the craft of bell manufacturing casting clappers out of wax rather than traditional bronze. These fragile replicas are in glaring contrast to the original objects. www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk
