Dhammapada Verses 1 and 2

The Dhammapada is an early Buddhist text- a collection of sayings by the Buddha. Dhammapada means way of truth.

If you were to ask me what is my favourite Buddhist text I'd probably say this one, and my favourite verses would be the first two:

1. Experiences are preceded by mind, led by mind, and produced by mind. If
one speaks or acts with an impure mind, suffering follows even as the cartwheel follows the hoof of the ox (drawing the cart).

2. Experiences are preceded by mind, led by mind, and produced by mind. If
one speaks or acts with a pure mind, happiness follows like a shadow that
never departs.
