Washington 217D Yarder - High Country Move Through Steep Switchbacks

Auburn Timber moving thier Washington 217D Slackline Yarder up through a series of switchbacks to the top of a mountain on Vancouver Island, B.C. The terrain was far to steep for the machine to navigate on its own power alone, so a very large HD-31 crawler (112,000 lbs) was used to pull while a Clark 880 skidder to push. In several places the machine had to be lifted with the jacks on greased plywood and pushed or pulled sideways. The cameraman was needed to help with this duty so no video was recorded. REMEMBER- the camera never does the terrain justice. This was step, steep ground!
Total horsepower between the 3 machines was roughly 1500 HP.

Narration was by one of the landing men, not me- I wasn't there.

Our plan is to record a 'narration interview' with Mike (the co-owner, running the dozer here in this video) so he can describe what's going on and why. They did make it to the mountaintop, rigged up and went logging, but this is the only surviving video of this job.
The yarder was moved off the mountain (snubbed off of course) and the water from the truck brakes had frozen on the road in places, making a nerve-racking ride back down the mountain!
