The magician from Jaipur!

This was a short excerpt I had written during my stay in India and did not bother posting earlier...so here it is...

An introspection on India.

It was my second visit to India, my motherland, after I emigrated to Canada in the mid 90's with my family. For me, it is a place of deep emotional attachment to my extended family, my childhood friends, the food, culture and my hometown. Moving from a country of 1 Billion in the 90's, where in some parts population densities are easily measured in the 1000's/sq. km., to a country of 30 million as you can imagine was a very troubling experience to a 15 year old's ego at the time. The move has had a profound makeover in the way I went about life in Canada in the years to follow and I still remain mesmerized by it all.

India is as I remember it in my thoughts-colorful and full of exciting adventures around every corner. The streets are as busy if not more, the people all the more sociable and hospitable. Gut instinct still precedes all the logic that an Indian would need while maneuvering in the ever growing traffic of cars and rickshaws. Poverty is also very much prevalent and especially heartbreaking to see when young kids beg for money and food. Opulence can also be seen aplenty in the cars people drive and the homes they have built. It remains a kaleidoscope of ideas and an abundance in the human spirit.

India has bequeathed most of the skill-sets I have acquired and if my driving is to be admired nowadays you know whom to thank for it. If there is one thing I can take from this trip it is the thought which has made me realize what is really important in this life- that humans all over the world have the same needs and tendencies in the struggle for survival. The choices we all should be making day to day is to advance humanity and persevere to preserve it.
