When AI mandates come from the top down, teams can feel like it’s being prescribed to them, and the leaders giving those mandates often haven’t spent enough time in the tools to back it up.

Andy Vitale has been building with AI since 2015, and as VP and Head of Product Design and AI Center of Excellence at TaxWell, he spends 75% of his week in AI tools. He makes a strong point: your team can tell the difference between someone who has actually used these tools and someone who is just repeating what they read online.

The good news is that AI is still new enough that getting familiar with it now still counts as getting ahead. You don’t need to have it completely figured out. You just need to be in it, making mistakes, building the kind of fluency that lets you guide your team toward possibilities they haven’t seen yet.
