1 WEEK IN BANFF & JASPER | LAKE LOUISE & MORAINE & COLUMBIA ICE FIELDS & MORE | ROTR Week 4

This past week we spent at Banff National Park and Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada! We were HYPED UP about Banff especially, and have been looking forward to this week for the WHOLE year! Why? I'm glad you asked!

First off, Lake Louise. Lake Louise looks like what you might get if you dumped a couple tons of sky blue food coloring into a one billion gallon pool of Christmas cookie icing. It is like if a milk company made a Gatorade Glacier Freeze flavor. What makes it this insane color? The glaciers! There is a hike at Lake Louise called the Plain of Six Glaciers, where you can set eyes on the SIX glaciers that feed Lake Louise! Incredible stuff.

Moraine Lake is a deeper blue than Lake Louise, and if we're being honest it wins the beauty contest between the two. It literally doesn't look real, or that it could even exist. If you saw a painting of Moraine Lake, you'd think the artist was either lying or high, and the answer would be the latter. She'd be high on the endorphin rush you get when you wake up at 4am to get a parking spot at Moraine and watch the sun come up and shine a light on this lake with the stunning mountain backdrop.

We had to wake up before 5am every day we spent exploring Lake Louise and at 4am to get to Moraine Lake. Because we wanted to see the sunrise? Well, yes, of course we wanted to see sunrise, but the real reason was to get a parking spot! There are SO MANY tourists that visit these 2 beauties every summer, that you have to get up that early to get a parking spot! Otherwise you're taking the shuttle in from the overflow lot...

One of the best parts about Jasper is the drive to get there. The winding mountain roads with incredible canyon and valley views is incredible, you won't want to speed because you'll be sad to miss it! And on the way, you'll see the Columbia Ice Fields and Athabasca Falls, among other beauties! We finished the week by going for a soak in Miette Hot Springs, a natural springs in Jasper with water kept at a piping hot 104 degrees! Great for a cold & rainy day...

About Zach & Julie:
We first found out each other had a passion for travel when we started dating, and set off on our first trip together to sunny San Diego after only dating for a few short weeks! You really learn who someone is when you travel with them... Everything started off great with a delayed flight and lost baggage (the only reason Zach has broken Julie’s terrible overpacking habits and convinced her to become a backpacker gal) but we bonded the rest of the time over sunsets, bike rides, seafood and strong coffee. We were quickly hooked to the feeling of exploring a new place and found ourselves planning our next trip before returning home from the last.
Starting in January 2019, we purchased a 2001 Volkswagen Eurovan MV and are making the road our home! We spent 2 months converting our van (Winnie) into our home, with a TON of help from YouTube tutorials, and of course some help from Zach's handyman pops. Now every day is a new adventure!
