Ukraine’s President Zelensky welcomes US military aid | BBC News

Ukraine’s President Zelensky has described a multi-billion dollar military aid package from the US as “vital” and said it gives the country “a chance of victory”.

Ukrainian forces have come under increasing pressure from Russian troops in recent weeks, and there have been concerns from western allies about Russia’s advances.

The new aid is likely to include air defence systems, mid to long-range missiles and artillery shells – along with weapons and ammunition.

The head of Ukraine's military warned the battlefield situation in the east of the country had "significantly worsened" as Russia intensified its armoured assaults, but it is hoped that the new aid will save Ukrainian lives and territory.
