What is the normal pH range for soap? #naturalsoap #organicsoap #handmadewithlove #coldprocesssoap

🧪 Let’s Talk pH! 🧼
Today I’m testing the pH levels of my handmade soaps — each cured for at least 4 weeks. And guess what? They all passed! ✅ With a perfect pH of 8, they’re gentle, effective, and ready to pamper your skin.

But why does pH matter in soap? Let’s break it down:

🔍 What is pH?
pH measures how acidic or alkaline a substance is — on a scale from 0 to 14.

7 is neutral

Below 7 is acidic

Above 7 is alkaline (basic)

💧 Your skin’s natural pH is slightly acidic, usually between 4.5–5.5, to protect its barrier and microbiome.

🧼 Soap’s natural pH is higher — usually between 8 and 10 — because of the chemical reaction between oils and lye.
That’s why curing time is so important! It ensures the lye is fully reacted, making your bar safe and balanced.

✅ A pH of 8 means:

The soap is mild and skin-safe

There’s no active lye left

It won’t strip or irritate your skin
