The next generation of the NBA’s best go head to head in the 2011 NBA Finals as the Oklahoma City Thunder go up against the Chicago Bulls. OKC finished the 2010-11 NBA season with a 55-27 record, earning the fourth seed in the Western Conference. Led by the trio tandem of Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden, the Thunder would defeat the Denver Nuggets, the Memphis Grizzlies, and the Dallas Mavericks to advance to the NBA Finals for the first time in their franchise history, but their fourth overall appearance in the NBA Finals (having been to the NBA Finals in 1978, 1979, and 1996 when they were known as the SuperSonics in Seattle). Out in the Far East, the Chicago Bulls finished their 2010-11 season with a 62-20 record, securing the first seed in the Eastern Conference. Captained by NBA MVP winner Derrick Rose, the Bulls defeated the Indiana Pacers, the Atlanta Hawks, and the Miami Heat in the playoffs to make their first appearance in the NBA Finals since 1998. The fate of the Larry O’Brien Trophy falls into the hands of two teams that are seeking validation (Oklahoma City) and redemption (Chicago) after years of heartbreak and shortcomings.
