How to Use Colored Light in Filmmaking and Video Production
We talk to lots of people about how they use their lights, and when we ask if they use colored light, most often the answer is no — but we believe the vast majority of these folks would benefit creatively from using RGB and RGBLAC fixtures. You probably don’t realize how often colored lights are used in the movies and TV shows that you watch. In this video, filmmaker Levi Whitney from UpHill Cinema, explains how he created mood and drama with a Nanlite Forza 60C and a PavoTube II 30X, effectively using their colored tones to tell a story. The techniques he shares are not complicated, and they’re something you can start employing right away.
More about the Forza 60C
The Nanlite Forza 60C is an ultracompact and lightweight spotlight that can run on AC or battery power, and what makes it special is that it incorporates lime, amber, and cyan LED beads into its light source. This makes it capable of producing rich and vivid colors, in addition to highly accurate daylight and tungsten white light.
More about the PavoTube II 30XR
The Nanlite PavoTube II 30XR is a four-foot long LED tube light that can run on AC or its powerful internal rechargeable battery. It has an RGBWW light source, which means it can generate a wide range of colors in addition to the warm and cold white lights that are popular in video production. It also features pixel effects that can move in an animated way across the tube.
