Cleone, from SandSpur Ranch Border Collies, gives birth to puppies, demonstrating standard labor and delivery in dogs (whelping). This video covers stage 2 labor and delivery of the first puppy. See how I encourage and assist Cleone through the birthing process and also the basic early care of the first puppy.
(Please note that my approach is pretty hands-on. This is NOT recommended for all dogs and some will become quite nervous. If the mother is doing a good job with the puppies, it is usually best to let her care for them, though handling them early will help her accept you touching them later on and minimize over-protection by her towards the handler.)
