Rockburn Presents - Randy Bachman

Randy Bachman
Forty years ago, a Canadian rock band did the unthinkable. In 1970, The Guess Who's "American Woman" reached number one in the United States, the first time for a Canadian band. A few months later, founding member and lead guitarist for the band, Randy Bachman, did the unimaginable and quit the band. A few years later in 1973, Bachman reached the top of the charts again, this time with another band, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, and a new song called "Takin' Care of Business." Born in Winnipeg, Randy Bachman learned to play guitar under the tutelage of Lenny Breau and was responsible for creating the soundtrack for a generation of Canadians, first with The Guess Who and later Bachman Turner Overdrive. "These Eyes," "Laughing," "Undun," "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" all helped define the Canadian experience. A member of the Order of Canada, Bachman continues to play and tour and is the host of CBC Radio's "Vinyl Tap". Ken Rockburn spoke to Randy Bachman at Winnipeg's Pyramid Cabaret.
