Why Soundwave loves Lazerbeak: The Forgotten Character

People rarely talk about Lazerbeak, but isn't he more than a pet to Soundwave? That's right- he is not a Cybertronian animal, but a Minicon with his own thoughts and feelings! Soundwave's companion is a hard worker, but everyone else hardly recognizes him as a fellow Cybertronian. Why is that? Is he just a bit too quiet, or is there another reason he is only seen as a tool?
