Udupi | Udupi Krishna Temple | Solo Trip | Places to Visit in India
This film highlights my solo trip to Udupi. It includes Shri Krishna Matha Temple, Madhwa Sarovar, Chariot (Ratham), Shri Chandramouleshwara Temple, Shri Ananteshwara Temple. Udupi got its name from the Kannada word for the moon. Sri Krishna Matha Temple was founded by the Vaishnavite saint Jagadguru Madhwacharya in the 13th century. This temple has unique way of decorating the chariot that carries Lord Krishna. Other unique feature of the temple is that the deity is worshipped through the silver-plated window with nine holes (Navagraha kindi). Madhwa Sarovar is a holy pond of Shri Krishna Matha Temple built in 13th century. Shri Anantheswara temple is the most ancient temple of Udupi. It is interesting to note that this village derived the name, Shivalli from this temple. Adjacent to Shri Anantheshwara temple, the devotees can see the temple of Shri Chandramouleeswhara in the east. Lord Shiva is worshiped here and the idol can be seen only as a gold plated face with big mustache.
