How to Plane your boat (Best Technique)

Welcome to Banshee boat. i'm Andy. Today we are talking about how to plane your boat. We are looking at what plane is, how it works, and the best technique to really get the most out of your boating experience. We check out the lake on our 1982 Vanguard Banshee MK2 Ski-Boat.We have a stingray hydrofoil on a Johnson V4 90 HP engine. Our boat is able to get on plane very easily with just the use of trim and throttle.

When your boat is on plane it is basically cruising on the surface of the water with the least amount of water touching the boat. The bow is down and you will be traveling at a moderate to high speed. The boat should be traveling smooth and effortlessly across the water. Once the boat is on plane you can adjust the trim up and down, depending on performance. You'll have to see how the boat feels and use your judgment, when the bow stops responding to the trim that should be enough.

Benefits of planing include reduced fuel consumption, more stable ride, and faster top speed.

The best technique to get to plane is so start applying more throttle, if the bow is rising you will need to lower your trim slowly. Continue applying more throttle and lowering the trim until the bow stops lowering. If your trim was already down you may need to raise your trim more. Once you start planing you can raise your trim until you hear a slight noise change with the propeller, when the noise starts to change you are reaching the limit of trim. Lower the trim slightly until you do not hear the sound.
