In this interview, Fred Cleveland relates his experiences in the military during the Vietnam War era. He describes his childhood and youth. His father worked for the railroad and his mother was a teacher. He tells of making the Baltimore Colts team until he was drafted into the Army. He relates his duties and his philosophy of the war. He recounts meeting Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Washington, D.C. just before King’s historic speech there. He chronicles his post-war career and family. He discusses black history and its role in American history.
