The chariot of Thutmose IV, king of Egypt c. 1400-1390 BC (great-grandfather of Tutankhamun)

This video is of photographs of the chariot body of the pharaoh Thutmose IV (c. 1400-1390 BC), father of Amenhotep III and probable great-grandfather of Tutankhamun. The chariot is in the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Cairo. It was found in the Valley of the Kings (tomb KV43) in the burial chamber by Howard Carter in 1903. The chariot was made of wood and canvas with stucco decoration. The wheels, axles and fittings were missing. The decoration is symbolic and shows the king running down his Asiatic enemies from his chariot. They are scattered, leaderless, bewildered and crushed. Thutmose is serene and expressionless. No other Egyptians are shown, only gods. Photographed on 1 November 2022.
