Are these REALLY Polychromos dupes? Deli (Starjoy 72) Colored Pencil Review

People have been raving about these budget colored pencils claiming that they are as good as FaberCastel Polychomos but are they? I'll put them to the test in today's review!

I purchased the Deli pencils under the brand Star Joy, make sure you select the 72 count set in the tin if you want the Deli pencils, the other size sets are from a different manufacturer I understand. This is the set I bought: https://amzn.to/3iszLBZ Other sellers have it as well on Amazon at a higher price. Affilate link used.

First let's start with the similarities to polychromos pencils:
*layers well
*nice color payout
*Same fimness of lead
*resists breaking
*no snapping or crumbling of lead when sharpened to a fine point
*Thick lead like Polychromos

Now let's see what is different:
*Deli pencils have a bit more drag, less smooth (not scratchy tho)'
*Polychromos has a more natural color palette where this Deli/StarJoy has more vibrant colors. There are several "samey" peaches and other redundant colors and it leaves out other useful colors. The bight pinks and purles in the deli/starjoy palette are different than Polychomos and probably not lightfast if that is a concern for you.
*I couldn't build up as much rich color on smoother paper as I could with polychromos
*Polychromos has a richer and more natural palette as opposed to Deli
*Deli pencils are very water reactive where polychromos are mostly water-resistant.
*Price: Deli is about 36 cents a pencil and Polychromos os about $2.26 sents in sets.
*Polychromos is vailabe open stock and deli is not as far as I know.

Bottom Line: I think these are a decent pencil for the price and they do feel and behave like a polychromos. I'd recommed them to people who are learning or creating work that dosn't have to be lightfast (non fading in light) and want a cheaper pencil to practise with. They have a harder lead and will resist breakage over a softer pencil. That said I prefer a softer pencil myself so these won't be a favorite for me but that dosn't mean they are bad. If you want to try these out as a "poor many polchromos" you can get the feel of a similar pencil but for the same price you could buy a small tinof polychromos or some open stock polychromos and honestly I'd probably recommend that over a budget set (if you have professional ambitions with these pencils) https://shrsl.com/33thk *It is more work to use fewer colors but it will make you a better artist. That said if you work in adult coloring books or are colorign small rubber stamped images a larger budget set might be more practical.
