The story of one woman's lifelong journey as a fixer, fine-tuned through childhood trauma and adverse life experiences, and how mindfulness can help us be present, compassionate and forgiving to ourselves and others and we live through the roller coaster of life. Emily Smalley is the Chief Executive Officer of Calmer Choice. Headquartered in South Yarmouth, Mass., Calmer Choice teaches mindfulness-based social emotional learning programs in Cape Cod and Southeastern Massachusetts schools, businesses, and communities. Emily joined Calmer Choice in 2017 and became its CEO in 2021 after a 20-year career in senior leadership positions at several Boston-area nonprofits and educational institutions. As a woman in long-term recovery as well as someone who has experienced her own health and wellness concerns, Emily melds her lived experience and professional career in leading Calmer Choice. Born and raised in Maryland, Emily holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing and a B.A. in English from the University of Maryland, College Park. She has also earned certificates in Nonprofit Management and Leadership from Tufts University and Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. Emily and her family live in Raynham.
