Writing Better Young Adult Fantasy: Part 1 – Defining the Genre
This first video in my three-part Writing Better YA Fantasy series seeks to answer all your questions about how to define Young Adult Fantasy—its unique conventions, intended audience, marketing functions, and various subgenres. Part two will cover the big-picture elements of how to develop a high-concept premise, vivid world-building, and a strong narrative voice. Part three will explore characterization, including ways to create a driven protagonist, contrasting relationships, and meaningful friendships. YA Fantasy is one of my favorite “genres,” so I’m excited to take a deep dive into many beloved books!
