WFLD Channel 32 - Snipets - "Come Back Here" (1981)
Well, at long last - here it is - Fuzzy's #1 most-wanted clip. Remembered by most people who watched *ANY* WFLD in the late-70s / early 80s (and on other Field affiliates and syndicated stations) - the infamous "Come Back Here" Snipets segment (A.K.A., the "Come Back Can" as I wrongly dubbed it for many years).
As with a lot of things that are looked for and eventually found, there is a bit of "That's it, is it?" underwhelming sentiment - it's only 60 seconds long, after all - but it still is amazing to see.
It's also amazing to think how long I've been looking for this darn thing - since long before FuzzyMemoriesTV was even a twinkle in my eye - back when I was just occasionally collecting some videotapes that had some things on them that made me nostalgic. It was at least from sometime when I was in High School - so that would make it roughly 25 years. I remember even at some point putting an ad in a paper or magazine - might have been that "Trading" newspaper that was like Auto Trader but for other stuff - I can't remember what it was called. Or I think I even put an add in Premiere magazine one time for some reason that I can't recall now.
In any case, we have it now, and we have Greg Dambek, one of our dedicated and valued FuzzyCrew, to thank for it. Greg had picked up some videotapes earlier this year from an estate sale and had started cataloging their contents. Somehow he had missed the whole "this is my number one want" thing ;-) and so he didn't think it was of any particular significance. On talking to him about what was on the tapes, he brought up seeing "one of those Snipets things" and when I asked him to describe which one it was - BINGO, he had found the Come Back Here!
This segment aired during a mostly complete episode of the Stooges / Rascals Hour from August 1981. I'll be posting that complete episode so you can see it in all it's original glory in a few weeks.
Voiceover for this Snipets segment by ?? (would be nice if we could ID the voice - or even who the kid actor was in this putting the thing together)
This aired on local Chicago TV in August 1981. (though it would appear this segment was produced in 1975 as evidenced by the Copyright date)
About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical purposes. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 4,700+ (and counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please visit us at:
