IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON NOMAD MIGRATION IN BHUTAN

“𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗵𝘂𝘁𝗮𝗻”

🔘According to some of the research, archeological evidence shows that early nomadic people migrated according to climate change. Therefore climate change and nomadic migration are seen to be closely related.

🔘With climate change, nomads and highlanders living on the third pole of the Hindu Kush regions are affected the most in many ways. The weather at the mountain is becoming increasingly unpredictable, with changes in timing, frequency, and amount of rainfall. Temperatures are rising gradually.
Several severe floods, landslides, and droughts causes massive loss of livestock. As a result, there are increased migratory movements among the nomads today.

🔘Many nomads wander from one pasture to another, often compared to olden times. In Bhutan, at the higher elevated settlements, nomads and highlanders are experiencing the brunt Of climate repercussions resulting both in positive and negative ways.

This time I have chosen Sakteng, as it is home to most of the eastern Highlanders.
