UCF chose the Canvas LMS for its extensibility‰ŰÓthe flexibility of the platform to be customized to meet the institution‰ŰŞs unique needs and to solve problems. The university has used the LTI standard to build integrations for third-party tools, as well as for its own custom apps. For example, UCF developed a custom LTI integration for OneSearch Lite, a library search tool that helps connect students with research materials. Within the first weeks after integrating the library tool with Canvas, it was accessed by 20,000 unique visitors.

Instructional designers say the continual upgrades to Canvas incorporate technical, as well as pedagogical improvements, which enables instructors and designers to achieve a balanced approach in their online courses.
