In full: Andy Burnham hits out at Government after Covid talks collapse

Andy Burnham has accused the Government of walking away from negotiations as it emerged that Greater Manchester is to be placed into Tier 3 restrictions unilaterally.

The Mayor of Greater Manchester said the 10 boroughs estimated that the cost of the restrictions would be £15m a month.

He added they were prepared to reduce that to £75m for the rest of the year, and prepared to "go even lower - to £65m - to prevent a winter of real hardship here".

That was "not what we wanted - it was what we needed" he said.

But the Government refused to accept this and "and at two o'clock today they walked away"..

It is understood that all pubs and bars will be shut for 28 days, unless they are serving substantial meals. Betting shops, casinos, bingo halls, adult gaming centres, and soft play areas will also be forced to close.
