Drought and flooding are significant problems of our time - to be able to feed the world, an innovative solution must be found. High-tech farming could be the answer.

There is already high-tech farming in Japan, where vegetables are grown in laboratories under optimal conditions, which has nothing to do with the original farming in real nature. For example, lettuce should not be washed because the water would make it more impure than before. But the interest in hi-tech farming has increased a lot after the accident in Fukushima.

In Germany, some farmers advise their offspring to look for another job because nothing works without irrigation and is very expensive. In the Netherlands, high-tech farming is already standard. Tomatoes, for example, need much less water than elsewhere. High-tech farms are being brought into cities; a small farm on the 13th floor in Tokyo makes employees more aware of agriculture.

Whether urban or rural, high-tech farming could bring powerful solutions to existing issues.
