How To Fix BROKEN Ice Maker Supply Line Copper Tubing

In this video, we show you how to fix your ice maker supply line when your copper tubing breaks. It is very common in older kitchens for the old copper tubing ice maker supply line to kink or pinch and break, leaving you with a nice water jet squirting on your kitchen floor. The problem is that most copper tubing fridge supply line sizes are 1/4" making them too easy to kink and bend and wrinkle.

In this case, there is no easy way to repair this ice maker supply line as it broke at the wall, so we prefer to bypass old copper ice maker lines with newer steel-belted hoses, just like the steel-belted water supply lines we use on toilets and kitchen sink shut off valves leading to the faucet. Fridge supply line sizes are usually 1/4", because they don't need the same amount of water pressure as the kitchen faucet line does. The Home Depot usually sells ice maker supply line kits by Everbilt, but the issue with the Home Depot, is they only carry 5 ft and 12 foot lengths. Often times we need much more like 15 feet or 25 foot lengths. Sometimes you have to drill holes in the side of a cabinet to run the ice maker hose supply line from the kitchen sink faucet water shut off valve to the refrigerator.

Ice maker supply line kit installation tips

The fridge water line installation measurements are highly deceiving when you have to snake your fridge water line from sink shutoff valves to the fridge. Always get more than you need, and remember you need 5 feet of extra slack to be able to pull our the refrigerator from the wall and not pull too tight on the icemaker supply hose. The idea is to get that fridge water supply line from the water shut off valve under the sink, all the way to the refrigerator with enough slack to roll your fridge away from the wall when you need to.
