Exercising after a Brazilian Butt Lift | Dr. Daniel Shapiro

Dr. Dan Shapiro is a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He has been practicing cosmetic or aesthetic plastic surgery in the Scottsdale Paradise Valley area since 1992 and all he performs is cosmetic or aesthetic plastic surgery.

Dr. Shapiro has performed a lot of Brazilian Butt Lifts. He does that intentionally. It's been an interest of his, aesthetically. Dr. Shapiro went down to Colombia in 2009-2010 to learn some specific techniques on body contouring surgery and at that time he learned how to do Brazilian butt lifts. He has special training and special interest in this procedure. Of course, a very and most important part of this procedure is what he does in terms of surgical plan and how he does it. There is also, a post-operative course in terms of what we want to do to maintain your results. A common question he gets after surgery is "Dr. Shapiro, what exercises can I do after surgery? What do I need to avoid? How long before I can resume normal activity?" To understand the answers to these questions, you need to understand what a Brazilian butt lift is.

Basically, we’re taking fat from one area of your body, we’re purifying it and we’re re-injecting it into certain areas in your buttocks. We’re not injecting that fat as a filler. We’re injecting it as a transplant so we want that fat to get its own blood supply. It takes a while for that blood supply to happen and we like to minimize any variables that could decrease that blood supply from entering that new fat that has been transferred. Generally, we like to say about 3 weeks or so before you can really resume more normal activities. What does that mean? If you have a desk job, you should bring a pillow and when you sit on your rear end you want to not have direct pressure on your buttocks. When you are lying or sitting we want to have you kind of put your pressure on the sides of your hips to make sure we do not have direct pressure on that fat, which can be deleterious to the fat survival.

There are some basic parameters that we provide you. Just understand, going forward, if you decide to have this done, about 3 weeks is the magic number. You want to minimize pressure on that. Alter your activities and routines to emphasize that and reflect that desire for that fat to last.

After that fat last and usually after about 3 weeks or so, what we see is what we are going to get. We have been lucky enough to see a majority of that fat, that we transferred, live and give you a long lasting result.

Basically, afterwards, people want to know is there any exercise that we can do to maximize the result and the answer to that questions is, yes. You want to decease any direct pressure on that buttocks but anything we can do to stabilize the musculature of the buttocks and the surrounding musculature to accentuate your Brazilian Butt Lift will help you. We saw squats are a very good thing you can do because what you are doing is increasing the volume of the muscle in the area. You are increasing the definition and that will only serve as a foundation to make the fat that we put in, look better. You will see more projection. You will see more definition. The number one exercise that we want to do are going to be some squats or any variation on that. That can either be a full squat, a standing squat, sitting squat or some variation of a squat exercise.
