LIVE: oral evidence session on a statutory duty of care for higher education students 16 May 2023
An e-petition calling on the Government to “Create statutory legal duty of care for students in Higher Education”, has received over 128,000 signatures.
The Petitions Committee, which is responsible for considering e-petitions started on https://petition.parliament.uk/, has scheduled a debate on this petition on Monday 5 June.
Ahead of this debate, the Petitions Committee will hear from the petition creator, other affected individuals, and representatives from relevant charities and sectoral bodies.

What are petitions debates?
Petitions debates are ‘general’ debates which allow MPs from all parties to discuss the important issues raised by one or more petitions, and put their concerns to Government Ministers.
Petition debates don’t end with a vote to implement the request of a petition. This means that MPs will not vote on food labelling and support for people with allergies at the end of the debate.
The Petitions Committee can only schedule debates on parliamentary e-petitions started on petition.parliament.uk
