Ida and Isidor Straus' Mausoleum (Titanic Victims)

A visit to The Straus Mausoleum at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, NYC. April 2021.

Ida (née Rosalie Ida Blun) and Isidor Straus, who owned Macy's department store (and Abraham & Straus), famously gave up their chance to board lifeboats on the RMS Titanic to let others escape safely. Isador's body was found at sea a few weeks later. Ida was lost at Sea. The internet tells me that Ida's family gathered water near the Titanic site and put it in an urn inside the mausoleum.

The cenotaph's inscription reads: "Many waters cannot quench love - neither can the floods drown it." (Song of Solomon 8:7)
