Situation in Gaza a ‘humanitarian catastrophe’ as supplies run out

Save the Children Australia Chief Executive Mat Tinkler says the situation in Gaza is a “humanitarian catastrophe” as fuel, water and food run out.

Save the Children has 70 staff in Gaza right now that they lost contact with over the weekend for 24 hours.

This comes after only 10 aid trucks passed through the Rafah crossing and entered Gaza on Sunday.

“Save the Children managed to get one truck of supplies through in the last 24 hours,” Mr Tinkler told Sky News Australia.

“It had about 45,000 water bottles on board, but of course, this is to try and support almost two million people who are in desperate need for humanitarian relief.

“This is a humanitarian catastrophe evolving before our very eyes.

“It’s so important from a humanitarian perspective that we have a pause or a ceasefire on the conflict because right now, our staff are just trying to survive.”
