The unemployment rate tells you nothing about Kamloops real estate. #kamloopsrealestate

The general unemployment rate tells you nothing about Kamloops real estate. Here’s what actually does. 👇

A massive shift in our local job market is quietly redrawing neighbourhood property values right now.

🏫 TRU cut 70 positions. School District 73 slashed 77 jobs. RIH restructured its entire administration. The public sector professionals who traditionally bought in Aberdeen, Sahali, Downtown, and Barnhartvale are frozen — and so are those neighbourhoods. Sahali and Downtown sitting at 2% growth. Barnhartvale? Actually negative at -0.53%.

⛏️ Meanwhile the heavy industrial sector is hiring. New Afton, Highland Valley Copper, CN, CP Rail, and forestry are providing secure, well-paying blue-collar jobs and those workers are buying in Valleyview, Brocklehurst, and Westsyde. Valleyview leading the city at +4.16%. Brocklehurst at +2.55%. Both beating the Kamloops average while the prestige neighbourhoods stall.

The smart money isn’t betting on the boardroom right now. It’s betting on the hardhat.
