Macon-Bibb Transit Authority tests door-to-door van service in pilot program

The Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority's new Rapid Transit program concluded its second day of service on Tuesday, with early volunteers offering mixed reactions to the app-based, door-to-door van service.

The pilot program launched Monday, allowing volunteers to request free rides through a smartphone app in four target areas: downtown Macon, Shirley Hills, Gray Highway and Ingleside. The service operates from 7:00 a.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday using four designated vans.

Debbie Vetters, who works for the MTA, volunteered to test the service as a regular rider and praised the convenience and reliability of her first experience.

"They picked me up on time. I got picked up right in front of my house," Vetters said. "The bus was comfortable. We got to work in the same amount of time that it would take me to drive."
