President Michel Martelly on Haiti's Recovery and Future

Haiti's President Michel Martelly spoke with AS/COA's Susan Segal on the sidelines of the opening of the 69th UN Assembly in New York. Martelly outlined his administration's approach to Haiti's recovery since the massive earthquake in 2010. He talked about framing the country's current challenges as opportunities for businesses to flourish. "Instead of looking for aid, we've spoken about trade," the president explained.

Martelly also said he is consulting different sectors in the country on the next national elections, scheduled for October of this year, and what the conclusion of the UN mission to Haiti means for the country. The president said recent talks with the Dominican Republic represent a positive opportunity to address historical issues affecting bilateral relations.
