Washington Today (11/13/2023): Supreme Court adopts code of conduct amid ethics scrutiny
We're four days away from the deadline to avert a government shutdown. House Speaker Mike Johnson has introduced a plan to split government funding into two, smaller parts with some federal programs running out of funding on Jan. 19 and others on Feb. 2. But just how viable is that approach and would something like that pass the Senate?
We'll hear from members coming up. The Supreme Court has adopted a formal ethics code for the first time in its history. The Court said in a statement that the code closely follows an existing code of conduct for lower courts but has been adapted to the QUOTE unique institutional setting of the Supreme Court.
We'll hear what Senate Judiciary Committee chair Dick Durbin has to say about it coming up. And we'll prepare you for episode 9 of Books That Shaped America-The 1980 bestseller "Free to Choose" by Milton and Rose Friedman. The book strongly argues for free trade, lower taxes, limited government regulation, and school choice. And in our companion podcast a conversation with his friend Chapman University Professor Mark Skousen.
